Have you lost track of how many hospitals are coming to West Lafayette? If you have, don’t worry. I’m counting for you. Four. That’s the number of hospitals heading to the greater Lafayette area, and one of the latest to announce is IU Health with their West Side hospital project. For the first time, they’ve revealed exactly where it’s going.

IU Health Files Rezoning Request for West Side Hospital

IU Health has officially announced a rezoning request for 21 acres at the southwest corner of Jagger Road and County Road 500 North. The land is currently zoned R3 for multifamily residential use, but the request seeks to change it to MR, which stands for medical related. This rezoning request is scheduled to go before the Area Plan Commission this November, with approval expected from the Tippecanoe County Commissioners early next month.

Where This Hospital Will Be Located

If you’re trying to picture where this is on the map, think about the area along 500 North just past the Whitaker Inn. The site is positioned just north of the new SK Hynix development and Millbrook, the large residential project bringing roughly a thousand new doors to West Lafayette. This corner is quickly becoming a major growth corridor.

Full-Service Hospital with Emergency Services

While not every specific number has been released yet, IU Health has shared key details about what this hospital will offer. The facility is planned to have a 24/7 emergency department, operating rooms, inpatient care beds, and a helipad for emergency transport. It’s clear this will be a full-service hospital designed to serve the growing west side of the community.

What This Development Means for West Lafayette

The addition of a full-service hospital on the west side represents a major shift for a community that has traditionally relied on Lafayette-area medical facilities. As SK Hynix brings employment and Millbrook brings new residents, having access to comprehensive healthcare services nearby becomes increasingly important. This hospital signals how rapidly the greater Lafayette region is growing and how major institutions are positioning themselves to serve that growth.
